The Dominican Republic is the Eastern part of the island Hispaniola, wherein 1496 Christopher Columbus founded the first permanent colony of the New World, Santo Domingo. While the north-coast is famous for windsurfing and motorized water sports, you will find the most beautiful dive sites in the Southeast of the country. This is why the Neptuno Dive Center can be found here in the small tourist town of Juan Dolio. (click here for map of Juan Dolio) It is located on the southcoast approximately 50 km to the Eastern from the capital Santo Domingo and 15 km Western from the province capital San Pedro de Macorís. The closest international airports are Las Americas, Santo Domingo (SDQ) and La Romana (LRM).
Transportation to the dive center is easy. From the Santo Domingo airport a taxi will bring you for US$ 35 right to your hotel in Juan Dolio. There are also buses (so called "guaguas") available every few minutes which can take you for a quick trip to the interesting Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo. Different from isolated tourist centers like Bávaro/Punta Cana, or Playa Dorada, you are here in Juan Dolio perfectly connected to the rest of the country, so you will be able to see a little bit more in your vacation than just the hotel facilities and the beach.
